Do You Really Need Need A Sunscreen?

SPF: What Does It Mean, And Why You Should Care

Shield Sunscreen was created to address some common issues with other sunscreens including:

1. Often, synthetic chemical (organic) ingredients are used in sunscreens to make them more effective and to increase shelf life. These ingredients are often chemicals that have a worse affect on your skin then the sun itself (such as skin cancer). Some examples of UNsafe sunscreen active ingredients include: avobenzone, oxybenzone, octinoxate, octisalate, homosalate, octocrylene, and titanium dioxide. There is scientific research that shows that all of these active ingredients have safety concerns, ranging from causing skin cancer itself to endocrine and reproductive toxicity.

2. Being out in the sun for prolonged periods with the idea that you’re safe because you have sunscreen on could result in being out in the sun longer than you should be – thus accelerating the sun’s damaging affects. The point being that sunscreens are not a cure all that make you invincible to the sun. Limiting excessive exposure also plays a role.

We formulated Shield sunscreen after many hours of researching which natural ingredients offer the best protection from the sun. Zinc oxide (conventional zinc oxide, not the nano size particles) is used because that is the safest ingredient available that the FDA approves as an actual sunscreen ingredient.

In addition, we have included milk thistle, green tea, rosemary, and astaxanthin, because all of these ingredients have scientific research supporting that they help to prevent aspects of skin damage associated with UV exposure (including cancer).

Nature’s Complement products have not been evaluated by the FDA nor allergy tested, and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. However we have completed all FDA mandated testing for SPF rating.

FDA approved Active Ingredient:
Zinc Oxide 20% (we do not use any nanoparticles)

Additional Ingredients:
Sweet Almond Oil infused with Green Tea and Milk Thistle, Beeswax, Organic Shea Butter, Organic Jojoba Oil, Organic Coconut Oil, Natural Vitamin E Oil (non-GMO), Organic Flax Oil, Rosemary Essential Oil, Astaxanthin.

Reef safe! Not a single ingredient in this sunscreen will harm coral reefs.

Warnings: For external use only. Do not use on damaged or broken skin. Keep out of eyes, rinse with water to remove. Stop use and ask a doctor is a rash occurs. Keep out of reach of children. If product is swallowed, get medical help in the event of an allergic reaction.

Directions: Apply liberally to areas exposed to sun 15 minutes before sun exposure. Reapply after 40 minutes of swimming or sweating, immediately after towel drying, and at least every two hours.

Sun Protection Measures: Spending time in the sun increases your risk of skin cancer and early skin aging. To decrease this risk, regularly use a sunscreen with a broad spectrum SPF of 15 or higher and other sun protection measures including: limit time in the sun, especially from 10am to 2pm, wear long sleeve shirts, pants, hats, and sunglasses.

Children under 6 months: Ask a doctor.
